Relieving the Burdens of Ownership

We’ve all been there: your child has outgrown their bike again, and now — assuming you aren't already a GroBikes subscriber — you’re left with the task of figuring out what to do with the old one. You could put it in the garage and watch it gather dust (and rust). Or you could leave it on the curb for a lucky passerby, but that means saying goodbye to the money you spent on it. Either way, if you’re hoping to recoup some of that investment, well, buckle up. It's going to get complicated.

Let’s break it down.

Small child's bicycle discarded on the curb.
Another discarded bike.

Burden 1: Maintenance

First, the bike probably needs some TLC. Kids aren’t exactly gentle with their rides, and unless you’re a bicycle enthusiast, your maintenance skills may be limited to inflating the tires. So, you’re likely facing a trip to the bike shop for a tune-up — chain lubrication, brake checks, maybe even new tires. That’s time and money spent just to make sure the bike is in sellable condition.

Burden 2: Marketing

Now, assuming the bike is looking spiffy, it's time to play photographer. You’ll need to take about a hundred photos from every conceivable angle (don't forget that tiny scratch on the frame — someone will ask about it!). Next, you get to post it on platforms like Facebook Marketplace or Kijiji, and that’s when the real fun starts.

Burden 3: Customer Service

Expect a flood of questions like, “Is this still available?” (Yes, you just posted it!), “Can you deliver?” (Nope), and “What’s your best price?” (Not less than you’re asking, thank you very much). After negotiating with people who seem to want your bike for free, you might finally find a buyer.

Burden 4: Random Encounters with Strangers

But wait, you’ll need to meet up for the exchange. Cue the awkward parking lot rendezvous with a complete stranger. And let’s not forget the concern of safety — after all, meeting someone from the internet in person is not without its risks. Suddenly, all the effort of selling a child’s outgrown bike feels like way more hassle than it’s worth.

Subscribing = Freedom

Now, let’s look at how GroBikes makes life so much easier. With a GroBikes subscription, when your child outgrows their bike, we’ll simply exchange it for the next size up. No fuss, no bike shop visits, and definitely no shady meetups with strangers. You won’t need to spend time answering questions or haggling over price. Instead, you can focus on more important things, like enjoying your extra free time! In short, GroBikes saves you time, money, and the burdens that comes with owning kids bikes.
